How BILLmanager helps the leading developer of hosting control panel to automate sales

Ispmanager company is the developer of self-named server control panel that has been in the international market since 2004. 

Ispmanager panel tops the rating of the most popular hosting control solutions in the CIS countries and controls over 2 million active websites in 150 countries.

Project background

ISPsystem has implemented the task related to data separation from ISPsystem billing as well as seamless migration to ispmanager billing. To achieve this, BILLmanager product team created copies of the existing databases – separately for ispmanager platform users and resellers, and separately for ISPsystem product users – and launched different configurations on different virtual machines. 

The whole process took six months: from segmentation and migration of databases to launching ispmanager own billing.

 

Project solution

Ispmanager company needed a billing platform that would allow to automate ispmanager panel sales to clients in the hosting sector, to maintain internal billing processes, and to promote the product in the market.

 

Tasks:

  • Seamless data migration from ISPsystem billing that involves database division into ispmanager users (ispmanager panel license owners) and ISPsystem ecosystem users.
  • Informed selection of their own billing prior to migration.

This solution is driven by many years of successful work with the product and product team before separation of companies, by risk mitigation during data migration from one billing to another (such as service sales via API), as well as by the platform compliance with ispmanager key business needs.

In order to implement business tasks, ispmanager uses a wide range of BILLmanager platform features available out-of-the-box.

1. Automation of sales and client payments

BILLmanager automates all stages of sales: clients can use their account to select a service they need, pay a bill and receive closing documents. For client’s convenience, the platform supports various payment methods, including payment systems, bank cards and e-wallets. Among other integrations, there are QIWI, WebMoney, PayPal, PayFast, Alipay.

2. Organization of tax accounting

Both physical and digital products are subject to value-added tax. Its rate depends on the country. Built-in VAT module allows companies with EU VAT number to automate taxation for settlement of payments with clients from EU countries and further facilitate tax accounting.

3. Marketing activities

Due to built-in marketing module, BILLmanager allows to run advertising campaigns to attract new clients and retain the existing ones while increasing their average bill. For development of their own panel, the client’s team uses such features of the module as mailings, discounts and promotions, banner ads. 

To ensure efficient work with client database, BILLmanager provides for segmentation. You can group clients by expenditure level, services purchased, and other parameters that the system contains.

4. Analytics and reporting

Built-in BI module allows to obtain detailed information about sales, revenues, clients, resources and other business indicators, as well as perform a summary analysis of data, build graphs and diagrams for detection of trends, patterns and important correlations.

5. Provisioning of personal data security

BILLmanager includes module for personal data cleaning that allows the company to depersonalize client information. This increases the level of cyber security and allows to ensure confidentiality of each buyer in the event of incidents.

This approach allowed the client's team to develop additional integration modules in BILLmanager: 

With third-party payment system – to accept payments in crypto currency.

With off-board analytical system – to monitor product, advertisement and business metrics.  

With external mailing service – to draw data automatically from BILLmanager for further segmentation and generation of mailing lists.

With WHMCS billing system – to organize ispmanager panel reselling via the partners.

The client’s team uses another product from ISPsystem ecosystem in addition to the billing platform, and that is VMmanager server virtualization platform. It allows to deploy virtual environments for ispmanager panel testing. 

This is not the only scenario to utilize VMmanager – it can also help selling additional services. For example, the platform allows hosting providers to offer VPS to clients via BILLmanager interface.

Takeaways and plans

As a result of the project, the client has successfully implemented migration of its client database from ISPsystem billing and selected BILLmanager billing platform as its own billing. The migration has been seamless, while the company continued to render high-quality services in the same extent.

Due to built-in out-of-the-box integration and flexible customization options BILLmanager helps ispmanager to manage the tasks in hand: automate of sales and routine operations, promote services in an integrated fashion, and receive feedback from clients in a timely manner.
