How does a distributed switch work
The distributed switch feature allows VMmanager platform users to centrally manage VLAN settings on virtualization hosts. Network configuration templates are created using port groups (DPG - Distributed Port Group).
To create a template, you only need to fill in a few fields (port group name, VLAN tag, uplink interface) and, if necessary, activate available options. The options include using the default port group for new VMs and automatically transferring IP addresses from the interface to the bridge associated with the current port group.
All settings are available through the graphical interface. With it you can:
- Enable Distributed Switch mode;
- Add or remove a network settings template;
- Apply settings to nodes;
- View virtual machines in port groups;
- View network diagrams and more.
