Top 10 VMmanager updates in 2024 and plans for 2025

ISPSystem

As developers of VMmanager – the product for deployment of high availability virtual environment – we continue to work closely with our clients, collecting their expectations and feedback on improving the platform and refining it to meet the current challenges of companies in various business fields, particularly B2G.

We will bring you through the most significant product updates implemented in 2024 and planned for 2025.

What new features have emerged?

1. Templates of network settings – Distributed switch

Distributed switch management section is now available in the platform interface for VMmanager Infrastructure version. A useful centralized tool aimed at configuring virtual connection is now available for administrator. The operations are executed using a familiar approach to configuring virtual networks, switches, port groups and UpLink interfaces.

2. Ability to connect repositories with ISO images, particularly NAS repositories

Option to manage ISO image repositories has become available in platform interface. It is now possible for administrator to connect and disconnect your own image storages. Besides, it enables access to several repositories, connection of your own repository without access to external network, as well as connection of storages with ISO images that have been prepared using in-house standards.

Among other issues, we have added the ability to connect NAS repository as a storage for repositories. This option allows to increase the speed of creating virtual machines (VM) due to location of images in a shared repository; it also allows to reduce the requirements to local image storage.

3. Creating user images of virtual machines installed from ISO image

We have added the option to create user images of virtual machines installed from ISO image. It allows users to create an image of operating system: select a version, install from ISO and configure the OS as they wish.

4. Ability to create and clone virtual machines with a Windows guest OS

We have added the option to create and clone user images of virtual machines for Microsoft Windows operating system, which allows to make the provisioning of resources to end users easy and quick.

5. Active sessions management

Platform administrators have the ability to view and close active user sessions from the platform graphical interface. This option may come useful in scenarios that require hanging network sessions reboot or unauthorized access shutdown.

6. Alma Linux 9 OS template for virtual machines has been added

The platform template library has been supplemented with Alma Linux 9 OS template, which allows to create virtual machines on the current OS version fast and easy.

7. The ability to enlarge a VM disk without rebooting has been added

The ability to quickly enlarge a VM disk allows to avoid service interruption for VM rebooting if addition of disk resources is required. This increases user services availability and reduces their downtime period.

8. Option to edit VM parameters without rebooting

Now the platform allows to limit incoming and outgoing traffic speed as well as read and write speed (in IOPS and Mbps) on-the-fly (, without VM rebooting).

9. White Label (Branding)

We have added the ability to apply custom branding to VMmanager. You can now embed your company’s logo in the platform's web interface or mailings. This new feature will allow your service to stand out among competitors.
