Order and renewal

Order

Domains service has two options:

  • Registration — a new domain is registered;
  • Transfer — an existing domain is transferred to another domain registrar or its partner.

Domain name registration

  1. Selecting a domain name. In the Domain name  input field the client specifies the domain he would like to acquire or several domains with a space. For example,  firstdomainname seconddomainname thirddomainname. The client can enter a domain with or without specifying the domain zone. The client can choose a tariff according to the specified filter groups. For more details see the article Filter groups.
    Click Check button to check if the domain can be registered in the available domain zone. The client selects an available domain or several domains from the offered ones, clicks Register and proceeds to the next step.
  2. Contact Information. The client specifies the contact information of the person (individual or company) to whom the domain will be registered. Most domain name registrars require specifying several contacts for domain registration:
    • Owner  the primary rights holder of the domain;
    • Administrative  the contact for organizational issues. This contact will receive renewal notifications;
    • Technical — the contact, responsible for setting up the domain;
    • Financial — the contact to be billed.
    For each domain contact you should select a customized contact or create a new one. If the owner's data is not entered, the domain cannot be registered.
  3. Customizing order details. Summary information about the service is displayed:
    • Auto-renewal paid from personal account for the domains selected on the first step. Enabled by default. The client can disable the auto-renewal option;
    • Domain registration validity period — the client chooses for what period to register the domain. One year registration is set as a default option;
    • Data protection — complete hiding of personal data for an additional fee. Option is displayed if it is configured for the tariff.
  4. Name servers (NS). The client specifies the name servers that will be transferred to the registrar for domain name delegation. If the provider has set his own name servers, they will be selected by default. To specify name servers manually, use the Provider name servers switch.
    If two or more domains are selected for the order, the interface gives you the option to configure Specific name servers for each domain.
    Depending on the top-level domain and registrar, filling in specific name servers can be mandatory or optional.

Transfer of domain name

The transfer process differs depending on the registrar and the domain zone. Normally, your client is to receive a transfer code from the current registrar and start the transfer manually in BILLmanager. The system will initiate the transfer procedure automatically after that.

The transfer process in BILLmanager consists of the following steps:

  1. Domain name selection. Specify the domain you would like to acquire in the field Domain name.
  2. Contact information. Fill out the contact information of the domain owner. The contact data may be different from the current information specified for the domain to be transferred. If so, the contact information will be changed after transfer.
  3. Additional parameters. Specify the transfer code.
  4. Name servers. Specify name servers which will be transferred to your registrar to delegate the domain name.
  5. Service parameters. General information about the service. Here your customer can order add-on services such as Data protection if such services are set up in tariff plan settings.
Sometimes, the automatic transfer is impossible since the procedure requires a few manual actions to be performed by the client or the registrar. In such cases, the domain will be processed manually, the current transfer operation will fail, and additional actions will be required to finish it.

Renewal

The domain can be renewed not earlier than in 60 days before it expires and not later than in 30 days after it has expired. A client is not allowed to have more than one request for domain name renewal in the shopping cart and among all orders to be paid.

If the automatic renewal is activated, BILLmanager will renew the domain automatically in 30 days before it expires. If renewal has failed, it will try to renew it every next day. The latest renewal effort will be performed on the day before domain suspension.

The following domains will be renewed automatically:

  • if the domain is not being deleted;
  • if the service has the status "Active" while the domain is not being renewed or transferred yet;
  • if parameter opendate (date of service activation) is active. BILLmanager will not renew the domain if it has never been processed.

The suspended domains will not be renewed automatically.
