Protection of virtual machines

You can enable protection of a virtual machine (VM) from performing basic operations on it or from deletion.

The main actions with VMs include:

  • start;
  • stop;
  • restart;
  • reinstalling the OS;
  • entering recovery mode;
  • creating a snapshot;
  • creating a backup;
  • cloning;
  • image creation;
  • running scripts;
  • changing settings;
  • changing network interfaces;
  • changing disks;
  • balancing;
  • installing QEMU Guest Agent from the platform interface;
  • migration (except for automatic migration in a HA cluster).
Protection is enabled for all basic actions at once. In the current version of the platform, you cannot enable protection against only some actions. For example, only against reinstalling the operating system.

VMs with protection against basic actions are displayed in the platform with the icon , with protection against deletion — with the icon .

To enable the VM's protection:

  1. Go to Virtual machines → select VM → menu → Protect VM.
  2. Select the protection options:
    • Protection from deletion;
    • Prohibit basic actions with the VM. Selecting this option will automatically enable the Protection from deletion option.
  3. Click the Apply button.

To remove the VM's protection:

  1. Go to Virtual machines → select VM → menu → VM protection settings.
  2. Disable the protection option.
  3. Click the Apply button.
