VMmanager: Administrator guide

Recovery mode

A recovery mode is the process of starting a virtual machine with the LiveCD-image of the operating system SystemRescueCD. This OS is used for VM maintenance, diagnostics, and troubleshooting. For more information about SystemRescueCD please refer to its official documentation

To enable the recovery mode:

  1. Go to Virtual machines menu → Recovery mode
  2. Click on Start mode and reboot to confirm that you want to start the virtual machine in recovery mode.
  3. VMmanager will connect the SystemRescueCD image to the selected virtual machine and will reboot it.
  4. After the reboot, connect to the VM via VNC or SPICE: Virtual machines menu → VNC (SPICE) and select the SystemRescueCD boot mode.

The recovery mode won't be disabled automatically, a user will have to disable it manually. It will also remain active after VM reboot.

To disable the recovery mode:

  1. Go to Virtual machines menu → Recovery mode
  2. Click on Disable mode and reboot to confirm that you want to start the virtual machine in diagnostics mode.
  3. VMmanager will disconnect the SystemRescueCD image from the selected virtual machine and will reboot it.

The enable/disable operations are displayed in the VM history section: Virtual machines → open the VM page → History
